So, did they just run a random wire into the closet that doesn't actually do anything? What else could this wire be for? Is it just the old ethernet cord before they switched to fiber? Appreciate any help. It looks like hypothetically it is set up as an "internet ready home" or something I saw someone call it on this subreddit, so shouldn't the red cable I'm holding in my hand hypothetically be able to wire into the router and make an external ethernet port "live" somewhere out in my apartment? However, I can't locate any external ethernet port. What I'm confused about is my setup (see pic). I'm paying for 1G and getting max 160 Mbps on the other side of our 1000 sq ft apartment. For some reason they put the router in the closet, so obviously when I connect the modem, I get a garbage wifi connection throughout the rest of the apartment. I recently moved into an apartment, and we were required to get fiber AT&T internet. Check to See if your employer or school has a Signature Discount (FAN) with AT&T that you can take advantage of!
